Leadership
The co-founders of Foley Waite, husband and wife J. Kelly Conklin and Kathryn Schackner, are expert woodworking professionals with a philosophy based in the Arts and Crafts Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Both have extensive educational backgrounds in woodworking and furniture making and design—Kelly at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Kathryn at the Philadelphia College of the Arts. Their commitment to artistry and legacy continues to this day, with Foley Waite producing superior quality woodworking that endures for generations.
History
Foley Waite had its origins in an 800-sq. ft. shop in Montclair, NJ, which co-founders J. Kelly Conklin and Kathryn Schackner rented in 1978, outfitting it with used machinery that they reconditioned themselves. What began as an art furniture shop doing mainly local residential projects evolved into a prospering business that produced high-end woodworking for major corporations, including Skanska, Schering Plough, First Fidelity, Merck, and many others. They soon found their work in demand by contractors and designers working for high-end residential properties in Manhattan and the surrounding area—a market which remains their primary focus today. Moving into a larger space in Bloomfield, NJ, in 1985 and finally into their current 13,000-sq.-ft, company-owned facility in Kenilworth, NJ, Foley Waite has grown from a two-person operation to a thriving firm with a staff of 14 highly trained fulltime employees.
